The Yale Video

You may or may not have seen this, but a few graduates of Yale put together their own admissions video for the College.

It's a bit lengthy, but certainly enjoyable, especially if you're into the High School Musical or Glee scene (or so I've been told, I can't say I've seen either).

This Too Shall Pass

You may have seen this in the latest edition of ND Magazine, or remember their appearance during a football halftime show earlier this year, but the band OK Go was on campus this fall. OK Go is known for their "eccentric" music videos (mostly this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv5zWaTEVkI) and took some time during fall break to film a video on campus with members of the Band of the Fighting Irish.

YouTube will not let me embed the video to the blog, but links to the video and the ND Magazine article are below:

The science of Avatar

Maybe you saw Avatar (I still haven't - I'm not sure I will), or maybe you have no idea what it is (James Cameron's latest movie, which, I believe, became the highest grossing movie of all-time last weekend). But apparently, the "world" in which the movie is set has floating mountains and other sci-fi wonders. But are things like that really possible?

Below is a video from WGN TV in Chicago. They interviewed Notre Dame's Morten Eskildsen of the Physics Department. Professor Eskildsen conducts research on superconductors (or, for non-science people like me, "electric stuff that floats with liquid nitrogen"). I think all of this would be pretty interesting - if I understood the scientific jargon!

tour.nd.edu

At the end of last year, the University unveiled tour.nd.edu, a new website that essentially contains videos of campus tours. We lacked a virtual tour for quite some time, but the new website does a fantastic job of showing--and discussing--different parts of campus.

I know it is difficult for students in many areas of the country to visit Notre Dame before deciding where to attend college. While tour.nd.edu does not replace a campus tour, it certainly is the closest thing we have to that actual visit.

video.nd.edu

The University has recently launched video.nd.edu, "a place to watch stories, lectures and other content straight from the Notre Dame website." If you are looking for an easy way to keep up with the latest news and information from the University, or to find older news stories and videos, give the website a try: video.nd.edu.

100 years of the ND Victory March

The University does a good job of regularly updating www.nd.edu with new videos and news. The featured clip today commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Notre Dame Victory March. You can check it out at www.nd.edu or here.

New deans and nd.edu videos

A few months ago, I posted about the new deans in many of our colleges on campus. For the past few days, www.nd.edu has been running videos with the new deans, discussing their colleges and different programs within them. The main University website is always a great reasource for prospective students for reasons like this!

Domers in the Olympics

www.nd.edu has a nice montage of former and current Notre Dame students who are participating in the Beijing Olympics. You can watch the video off of the "wheel" on the main page.

Multicultural video

There's a great video on www.nd.edu right now showcasing some of the multicultural groups, activities and opportunities available for students on campus. The video includes links to a number of relevant websites and serves as a good source of information for your interactions with prospective students.

As an added "bonus", the film was produced by Macarana Ivanissevich, a former student assistant in our office!

UPDATE: Here is a permanent link to the video.

nd.edu Videos

As you may have noticed by now, the new www.nd.edu features a number of videos about the people, places and events that make Notre Dame so special. A nice archive of all these videos can be found by clicking this link. It's a good site to look over as many of the videos cover subjects which are relevant to the prospective students you meet in your area.
